See playlist for all videos. Numbers on each one below match numbers in the videos. You only need lumos and basic cast for most of these. The others will note what you need. For example you’ll need depulso for the one behind the Map of Argyllshire #10). For others, you’ll need level 1 Alohomora, which you get from The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament quest.
Basic Moth Puzzle Solution: Use lumos to reveal the picture in the frame, find the moth, use lumos to lure it back to the frame, and then use basic cast to put the missing moth back into the frame.

01 Like a Moth to a Frame
Talk to Lenora Everleigh in Center Hall for this.
Cast Lumos at the frame and see the picture that is now revealed. Go to the other side of the hall and down the stairs (the same stairs that leads to Potions).
The butterfly is to the left of the statue. Use Lumos to highlight it and then walk it back to the frame and use basic cast on the mirror to get the butterfly to go back.
Then go talk to Lenora again.
02 – Base of Ravenclaw Stairs
Base of the Ravenclaw stairs. Butterfly is up one level amongst the paintings across from the puzzle door up there.
03 – Defence of Dark Arts Tower Fast Travel Spot
Moth frame is down from the DODA Tower Fast Travel spot. Butterfly is upstairs left of Prof Fig’s Classroom.
04 – History of Magic/North Hall Stairs
Moth frame is one flight up from the History of Magic classroom, which is just inside from the Transfiguration Courtyard (behind the Wyvern Fountain). The moth is behind the level 1 locked door in the History of Magic classroom.
05 – Library
Moth frame is upstairs, opposite end of the stairs. To find the butterfly, from the mirror, back up and look to the other side on the lecturn, above the fast travel spot.
06 – Viaduct Courtyard
This is on an outer lower wall around the courtyard. Facing the mirror, back up down the stairs and go right towards the fast travel spot. Go up the stairs to the left of the fast travel spot and to the right end of the courtyard covered area.
07 – Great Hall
The moth frame is just outside the great hall. Moth is along the back wall of the Great Hall, behind the professor seats.
08– Slytherin Common Room
Facing the Slytherin Common Room door, go right down the hall to the bathroom. It’s across the hall from the bathroom. Facing the mirror, go left and around, up the stairs, and take the second left. NOTE: Many people are reporting that the moth in this one does not spawn for them.
09 – Pungent Passage
The moth frame is through the door on the second to bottom floor of the DODA corner stairs that goes to Charms & Fig. The butterfly is down the hall on the left.
10 – Gryffindor Tower (Map of Argyllshire)
Cast Depulso on the button above the painting to get to the moth frame. This is behind the Map of Argyllshire, which is on the wall before the door leading to the Crossed Wands area. Moth is in the ladies room down the hall.
11 – Crossed Wands Locked Room
Moth can be found in the level 1 locked storeroom in the Crossed Wands room. The butterfly can be found out in the courtyard – go to the right.
12 – Locked hallway under potions
The hallway the frame is in can be accessed from either going down the stairs from Potions, or from the Bell Tower Courtyard. It’s a level 1 lock to get into the hallway either way. The mirror is on the wall of the hallway partway down. The moth is at the Bell Tower Courtyard end on a display box with a troll in it.
13 – North Exit
This one is outside. Head to the north exit fast travel spot and stand inside the courtyard looking out at it. The mirror is in the locked room to the right. The moth is two towers back above the locked door that leads out of the courtyard.
14 – Headmaster’s Hallway
The moth frame is above the Trophy Room level at the base of the stairs to the Headmaster’s Office. The moth is back down the stairs.
15 -Astronomy Tower
The moth frame is at the bottom of the two floors of spiral staircase that goes to the outside telescopes upstairs. The moth is outside on the chalkboard.
Hogsmeade #1 – Dogweed and Deathcap
The moth frame is inside the shop. The butterfly is on the chimney of the shop. Leave the shop and go around to the left to climb up behind it.
Hogsmeade #2 – Southeast Hogsmeade
The mirror is just north of the South Hogsmeade fast travel spot, leaning up against a building. Facing the mirror, turn around to the right and go between the buildings out to the grass. Butterfly is right there.
Hogsmeade #3 – Hog’s Head Alley
The moth frame is around the back of the buildings of the Hogs Head dead end street. Go right from the fast travel spot and behind the buildings. The moth is on the dock.
Hogsmeade #4 – Hogsmeade Waterwheel
The moth mirror is inside the barn attached to the water wheel. The moth is right down the path in front on a lamppost.
Hogsmeade #5 – Abandoned Shop
The abandoned shop is over on the west side between the Magic Neep and the Dogweed and Deathcap. The moth is behind the shop.
